+Why We Love It
It was serendipitous that we found this watch mere days after closing our deal to become part of the Watches Of Switzerland Group!
Watches Of Switzerland has been around since 1924, and like many brick and mortar watch and jewelry retailers, has at time produced private label products. In many cases, these type of 'house brand' products are fairly low quality, designed to be a low-level entry point for their customers, as well as a branding exercise.
Not so in this case!
Offered here is a Watches Of Switzerland branded Seafarer Automatic produced in the 1960s, a high quality Swiss Made timepiece befitting the retailer's commitment -- both then and now -- to exceptional quality and service. The watch is fitted in a 35mm steel case supplied by EPSA, the leading producer of Compressor and Super Compressor diving cases as used by brands such as Hamilton and Jaeger-LeCoultre during the golden age of diving watches.
The movement is a three hand date automatic by ETA, a Swiss manufacture powerhouse now owned by The Swatch Group, and the dial is a dark grey sunburst pattern with applied faceted indices, a framed date window, ornate applied Watches Of Switzerland crest, and Tritium luminous plots. An acrylic crystal provides warmth to the entire package, and an EPSA-sourced cross-hatched winding crown ties the entire package together.
Regarding the name 'Seafarer' and the fonts used on the dial, we are keen to believe that these watches were likely produced under contract by Heuer - although we are yet to confirm this.
Regardless of who did assembly of this beauty, it is an exceptional little watch with a story that is now part of our own. To say we're proud to offer this fantastic timepiece once again as part of The Watches Of Switzerland Group is a massive understatement!
